MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (Feb. 27, 2008) -- Can-Am, long a stalwart in off-road competition, will make its debut in ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross National competition this season as a factory team. The Canadian company will campaign six riders this season, riding its new DS 450 sport quad.
Can-Am's riders are: Jeremy Lawson, Greg Gee, Sage Baker, and Richard Pelchat. John Natalie, Jr. and Cody Miller will also compete at select events.
Can-Am Product, Media Relation and Racing Manager Delton Bohlman said the team chose to return to ATV National competition with an eye on the AMA No. 1 number plate. That honor goes to the overall ATV Motocross Nationals Pro Champion and is awarded at the AMA season finale banquet.
"The AMA plate comes with a lot of prestige," said Bohlman. "We would love to attach that No. 1 plate to our bike. With that in mind, we configured our teams with a lot of thought and research. We wanted both veterans and the up and comers in order to help develop the new DS 450, and to win the overall title."
Teams carrying the Can-Am factory flag include Epic Racing and Warnert Racing. Pelchat, a privateer, will receive factory support and will also be vying for the Canadian Championship.
The 2008 ITP/Moose Racing AMA ATV Motocross season kicks off March 8-9 at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernadino, Calif.
