ATV Motocross Heads to Three Palms for Texas National This Weekend
Hetrick Aims for Second-Straight Win on Saturday
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (April 1, 2022) – This weekend the ATV Motocross National Championship (ATVMX) Series, an AMA National Championship, heads to Three Palms Action Sports Park in Conroe, Texas for round two of AMA Pro, WMX Pro and Pro Sport racing while amateur classes will kick off their season.
Racing kicked off in Daytona on March 8, 2022, for the AMA Pro class with some muddy and slick conditions inside Daytona International Speedway. However, that wouldn’t slow down Phoenix Racing/CST Tires/Elka/Moose Racing’s Joel Hetrick who battled back to take the victory at round one. Hetrick is hoping to do the same this weekend in Texas, but with a regular motocross format will have two motos to combine for an overall win.
Coming through second at the previous round was ML2 Motorsports/Walsh Race Craft/Maxxis/Yamaha’s Max Lindquist. This weekend Lindquist will aim to battle at the front once again and earn what could be his first AMA Pro overall win. Rastrelli Racing/FXR Moto/Rocket Machine Design’s Jeffrey Rastrelli rounded out the top three overall in Florida, and this weekend Rastrelli is looking to take his machine to the center of the podium. Rastrelli has been putting in the work, and he is ready to return to the winners circle this year.
Ford Brothers Racing/Fly/SSi/Maxxis/DWT/Maxima/Fourwerx/Walsh’s Bryce Ford had a good ride in Daytona, as he was running third for the majority of the race. A last lap mishap would take him out of podium contention as he came through fourth, but he is hoping to battle back in his home state of Texas on Saturday.
The defending champion, Wienen Motorsports/Maxxis/SSi Decals/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Chad Wienen had a horrible start and with the muddy conditions at Daytona made it almost impossible for him to work his way through the pack. Wienen would make it from 14th place all the way to fifth as the checkered flag flew, but this weekend he is coming back for number one spot.
AMA Pro Rookie, Decker Training Facility/K5 Motorsports/Walsh Race Craft’s Zack Decker is looking to battle for a top five spot this weekend at round two. Decker came through to finish sixth at the first round, but he is hoping he can put together two solid motos in the Pro class.
GennUSA Racing/Integrated Financial Concepts/CST/Walsh Race Craft’s Nick Gennusa did not have the race he was hoping for as he came through in the seventh place position. Gennusa, who finished third at the previous year’s ATVSX, was looking to start the year off strong, but he is hopeful he can get back to his podium earning ways this weekend in Texas.
Earning eighth at round one was HuntScapes/Baldwin Motorsports/Capital Powersports’ Michael Allred. This weekend Allred will continue to push himself for better results and remain in the top 10 overall. Stanfield Motorsports/TDR Motorsports/Impact Solutions’ Logan Stanfield will aim to continue to push himself through the pack and battle for a top spot. Turrini Motorsports/Rath Racing/Elka's Patrick Turrini rounded out the top 10 overall in Florida and is aiming to continue to battle for a spot inside the top 10.
One rider who ultimately finished outside of the top ten but led 15 laps of racing inside Daytona International Speedway on Tuesday, March 8 was Musick Racing/Déjà Vu/Kenda Tires’ Brandon Hoag. He claimed the SSi Decals Holeshot award and continued to push and place a gap over the rest of the field. However, a mechanical issue would make him unable to finish the last four laps of the race. This weekend Hoag is sure to come out swinging as he had that win vanish in front of him at round one.
In the WMX Pro class, it was Andrea Berger who claimed the first-ever Wheelz Up WMX Holeshot Award in Memory of Michelle Jenkins and led every single lap of the race to earn the round one victory. This weekend Berger is looking to do the same and keep her momentum rolling through Texas. However, Kinsey Osborn and Niamh Shaw who claimed second and third in Florida are looking to put a stop to Berger’s winning ways and battle for what could be their first wins of the season as well. With 16 women signed up at round one, it will be great to see another gate full of WMX racers looking to battle for the season.
The Pro Sport class were also hosted at Daytona for round one back in March, with Brett Musick coming through to lead all 13 laps of racing. Musick is hopeful he can remain at the top and win this weekend in Texas as well. Blair Miller came close as he finished second, but this weekend he will be aiming to knock Musick from the top spot and claim it for himself. Riders like Chase Seeley and Agostino Abbatiello are also hopeful they can battle up front and put together two good motos to better their overall standings.
Racing kicks off at Three Palms Action Sports Park on Saturday, April 2. Amateur racing will begin after practice at 8 a.m. followed by AMA Pro timed qualifying sessions and consolation LCQ races if needed. The AMA Pro class will take to the track at 1:30 pm for Moto 1 and 4 pm for Moto 2. Don’t forget about Rocket Racing’s MotoChurch Service at 7 pm at the Rocket Racing pit area. WMX and Pro Sport will battle for their overall in on Saturday, with Pro-Am taking to the track for their first motos on Sunday.
