Wienen Motorsport's Chad Wienen was back to the center of the box this past weekend at Sunset Ridge MX in Walnut, Illinois for the sixth round of racing in the 2017 AMA ATV MX Pro National Championship Series.
In morning qualifiers, Wienen went out and grabbed the Fastest Qualifier Award by nearly a full second.
When gate dropped for moto 2, Wienen came out of the first turn just inside the top ten. He had to quickly make advances through the field in order to not loose too much ground with the front-runners. Moving into third place by the second lap, Wienen continued to tick off time until he was able to make a pass into second with four laps to go. Wienen went on to take second overall in moto 1.
In moto 2 Wienen got off to a similar start as moto 1 getting out of the first turn just outside of the top five. Coming up through the field Wienen moved into second and continued to cut down the distance between himself and the rider in first and just after halfway through the moto was able to make a pass for the lead and took the moto 2 win and the overall for the day.
"What a great day at my home race! I had a huge crowd on hand that really help me dig deep in moto two to track down t he leader and pull a small gap for the win. Big thanks to all that are behind me and make this all happen. Looking forward to MN next." said Wienen.
The ATVMX Pro National Championship series will continue onto the next round of racing at Spring Creek MX in Millville, Minn. on Saturday July 1.
