The ATVMX Racing Family is saddened to hear about the passing of former ATVMX Pro-Am racer, Dan Hoisington. Dan, 24, began racing ATV’s at the age of 16 where he quickly progressed from the C class to the Pro-Am ranks. The 2014 season was Dan’s last year racing where he faced a season-ending injury.

Dan’s family has requested that the rest of his story be told. After his injury, Dan was prescribed pain medication. Unfortunately, Dan struggled with the fact he was sidelined from his passion and became dependent on this medication.

Dan lost the biggest race of his life this past Friday, May 19, being defeated by addiction. Dan was always an athlete, and the last person you would think of getting addicted to anything but the adrenaline rush of competition.

The Hoisington family would like the following be released on behalf of Dan: “The subject of this matter has become a very shameful and taboo topic to talk about. The fact is in the sport of motocross it's not if you get injured it's when, and how the rider and the ones closest to him monitor and keep an eye on the situation. We are not ashamed to say Dan had a problem, matter of fact if you asked him about it he would have told you all about his struggle. The silence needs to stop on this subject and people need to be aware so these problems don't happen to others. The people who knew Dan knew he wasn't the typical user and wouldn't expect that. I hope that this being out in the open will open some eyes and hopefully save at least one life in the future.”

A gathering of friends and family is scheduled for this Friday, May 26, from 4-8 p.m. at Carlson Funeral Home in Brunswick, Ohio. A celebration of life service will follow. In lieu of flowers contributions may be directed to Robby's Voice, 1114 North Court, No. 123 Medina, Ohio, 44256.

Dan was schedule to return to racing later this season. Our prayers go out to the Hoisington family.
