Chad Wienen earned the first win of the 2016 AMA ATV Pro MX Championship series at the Daytona International Speedway Tuesday March 8. "The day went great for me. I started it out by earning the ATVRiders.com Fastest Qualifier Award in the morning that helped me with the first gate position for my heat race. I grabbed the heat race holeshot and went on to win the heat race."
With anticipations high for the first race of the season, Wienen had set himself up for a prime position for the first moto gate drop of the season. When the gate dropped, Wienen found himself crossing the holeshot line in the second place position. Keeping pressure on the rider in first, Wienen was able to make a clean pass for the lead on the second lap and never looked back. At the end of the moto Wienen had created over a ten second gap between himself and the rest of the field.
"The first race of the season is always exciting for me not just because it kicks off our racing season but because it is rewarding to see why you put in the hard work and long hours into your training and riding in the off season. I am looking forward to getting back on the track after our month off to continue the series and get back into action for Round 2 at Underground MX in Kemp, Texas on April 9.
