The Wienen Motorsports SSi Walsh Yamaha presented by Maxxis Tires & Team Vollmer team have been present on each podium so far this season at the 2013 Mtn. Dew ATV Motocross National Championshiop series, sanctioned by AMA, and this past weekend at Steel City MX in Delmont, PA was no different. Chad Wienen took his fifth consecutive overall of the season making him six for seven and Thomas Brown took his sixth third place overall in 2013.
At Round 7, Wienen grabbed the fastest qualifier award of the morning and was able to set himself up for a good gate pick for moto 1. Wienen came out of the moto 1 holeshot in the top 4 and was able to move his way up to second by halfway through the moto. Wienen then pressured the first place rider, and was able to make the pass for the lead. Wienen went on to create a comfortable lead and take the first checkers of the day. Brown did not get an ideal start in moto 1 and came out of the first turn just inside the top ten. With determination and drive, Brown made his way up to fifth within three laps. Brown continued to move forward and with two laps to go was able to make a pass into the third place position.
As moto 2 rolled around, Wienen once again got off to a good start and came out of the first turn in third. Wienen was able to move into second by the end of the sixth lap but was unable to make up any ground on the rider out front. Wienen claimed his sixth overall win of the 2013 season. Brown sat in fifth by the end of the first lap and had to work his way up to the front of the field. After putting a good charge on the field, Brown moved up to third and was able to secure his sixth third place overall of the season.
Chad Wienen holds onto the championship points chase lead and Thomas Brown follows sitting in second overall championship points as the series heads to Unadilla Raceway in New Berlin, NY this weekend July 13 for Round 8 of the 10-race series.
