Round 6, June 8th, 2013, of the AMA ATV MX Nationals proved to be another round of more muddy conditions. With practice being canceled on Friday, the racers feared no race would happen. After long deliberating the officials decided to run a 1-moto format for all the classes besides the Pro class and pushed the Pro race from 1:00 pm and 3:30 pm to 3:00 and 4:30. Team Joe Byrd made its way to the starting gate and was given 7th gate pick as there was no practice prior. After coming around the first turn, Joe Byrd aboard his high horsepower DASA engine received the holeshot award in the first Moto. Byrd held on to the lead for several laps, but after having no practice prior Byrd was unable to hold on to his position and went to second behind Weinen. Joe Byrd ended the first Moto in 3rd position and received the Moto 1 holeshot award. Having a short amount of time between the first and second Moto to prep, Mechanic Bill Micke did his best to get the Joe Byrd Honda machine prepped and ready and on the starting line for the second Moto. Regretting the decision to run big mud tires Byrd finished out the second Moto and got 4th overall for Round 6. Team Joe Byrd is looking forward to the break and heading to Round 7 for 4th of July weekend.
