Joe Byrd Ready for ITP/Moose Racing
AMA Pro Title Defense
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. (February 27, 2008) ”“ Joe Byrd knows that defending championships can be harder than winning the original. It’s with this mindset that he has spent the winter training hard at his Florida compound. With two weeks remaining before the Glen Helen season opener, Joe says he’s riding better than ever and is more than ready to begin his quest for a successful title defense. Adding to the prestige of Byrd’s defense is the fact that he is also the 2006 ATVA Pro Champion and the first ever AMA Pro ATV champion in 2007. Joe is gunning for his third major title in as many years.
There have been few changes with Joe’s program. “Everything is the same as last year, but I’ve switched over to Dunlop tires,” says Byrd, before adding, “Right now, I’m just going to race with standard production tires, but the Dunlop folks are working on some special compounds for later in the series. I just got out here to California and have a big test session planned for this weekend where I’ll finish dialing in my 2008 machine.”
The Glen Helen event is shaping up to be perhaps the biggest ATV Motocross race in the history of ATV competition. The March 8 and 9 race will be an AMA Pro points paying event, but will not include ATVA series points. However, it will take place in conjunction with the season opener of the Quadcross Series which will provide exciting amateur competition and add to the magnitude of the event. But in the Pro class everyone will be gunning for the # 7 Honda mounted champion. Nevertheless, Byrd is prepared. “I know this is going to be a really big race, but I know who I have to beat and I feel like I’m right where I need to be with my riding. It’ll be the same four or five guys that I have to focus on, and we’ll be ready.”
The 11-round 2008 ITP/Moose Racing AMA Pro ATV Motocross season kicks off March 9 at Glen Helen Raceway in San Bernardino, Calif. The 10-round 2008 ATVA Motocross series starts March 29 and 30 at Mill Creek Raceway in Pell City, Ala. For more information about AMA Pro ATV and ATVA Motocross, please visit www.atvmotocross.com.
