Yamaha's Donnie Luce after the AMA Pro ATV Open

Morgantown, WV - When Yamaha ATV/Offroad Coordinator Donnie Luce heard wind of Yamaha taking the holeshot and the win at the first-ever AMA Pro ATV Open Invitational, he was still at home.

"I was there in spirit and getting play-by-play from the Yamaha staff at the event," Donnie said. "I missed you, too."

Since Yamaha had three riders finish inside the top ten, Patrick Brown, Richard Pelchat and Hunter Miller, Donnie spoke on behalf of the first-ever event. "We are pleased to have Pat, Richard Pelchat and Hunter all in the top ten," Donnie said. "Hunter is currently gaining the speed and knowledge to run in the Pro class and has a great family supporting him. I am pleased with his progress in this first year in the Pro class."

When Pat Brown pulled the holeshot, all eyes were on the #199 Yamaha. "I was so pumped to hear from Mike Guerra that he got the holeshot and was leading the race," Donnie said. "Then for the next twenty minutes, I was pacing around the house finding things to do waiting for the call. When Mike called and said that Pat had won, I was so excited for Pat and his family (Fred & Pam,) and Paul Turner because of all the hard work that has been put into obtaining this first win. Everyone here at Yamaha is very excited to see him and the YFZ450 on the top of the podium and believe that there will be many more in the future."

Though Donnie missed the race, he heard what went down at the first-ever event. "I have heard nothing but positive comments from all our staff that attended the event and I can assure you that this event did open many eyes to what quads are capable of if given a good opportunity," Donnie said. "I believe Pat and all the other riders gained a whole lot of respect over the weekend. They put in a lot of hard work to compete at this level and deserve it."

As for who's riding for Yamaha in 2008, Donnie offered no clues. "We are currently finalizing plans for '08 and will keep you posted," he said. The AMA Pro ATV Open # 1 plate will be displayed at the Yamaha dealer meeting next week.
