Lake Sugar Tree ATVMX National Race Report
Hetrick Continues Win Streak in Virginia
AXTON, Va. (May 1, 2025) – The ATV Motocross National Championship (ATVMX) Series, an AMA National Championship, hosted its fourth round of AMA Pro ATV Racing at Lake Sugar Tree in Axton, Virginia on Saturday, April 26.
Phoenix Racing Yamaha’s Joel Hetrick would once again prove he is the one to try and beat in this series as he went 1-1 for the fourth-straight round of racing this season. During the race, Hetrick would have to work his way into the lead after starting third and second in each moto. Hetrick would push himself and not look back as he came out victorious at Lake Sugar Tree.
Coming through to earn second overall on the day was Ford Brothers Racing/FXR/SSi Decals/CST’s Bryce Ford as he went 2-3 in the motos. Ford would lead the opening lap in moto one and then hold onto the second place position through the rest of that moto, while in moto two he would start in third and be unable to challenge Wienen or Hetrick. Ford would ultimately finish third in the second moto of the day.
Wienen Motorsports/Maxxis/SSi Decals/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Chad Wienen rounded out the top three overall finishers at Lake Sugar Tree as he went 4-2 on the day. In moto one, Wienen would fight his way from fifth up to the fourth place position where he would finish out that moto, and in the second moto of the day Wienen would get a good start as he led the opening lap of the race. Wienen would be unable to hold off Hetrick, and he would fall back into second for the duration of the race.
Fourth overall would go to TDR Motorsports/Walsh Race Craft/CST/Rocket Machine Design’s Mason Jackson as he came through seventh in the first moto, and he battled back throughout the second moto of the day to earn fourth in that moto and securing his second top five overall finish of the season.
Going 6-5 for fifth overall was ML2 Motorsports/Walsh Race Craft/Maxxis/Yamaha’s Max Lindquist. In moto one Lindquist would have to make his way through the pack after starting back in eighth. He would make the necessary passes and be able to cross the finish line sixth, while in moto two, he would face a similar situation but would be able to make his way up to fifth as he crossed the finish line.
GennUSA Racing/SSi Decals/Kenda/Action Off-Road’s Nick Gennusa would finish sixth overall after going 5-9 on the day in Virginia. As moto one got underway, Gennusa would find himself working his way up and battling throughout the race to make his way into fifth for the last half of the moto. During the second moto of the day, he would have a bad start crossing the line 13th on the opening lap. Gennusa would put his head down and push, but he would only be able to make his way up to ninth in the race.
Finishing seventh overall on the day was JH Racing / Pep Performance / Shiffer Powersports’ Westley Wolfe as he would go 9-6 in the motos. Wolfe would work his way up to fifth at the halfway point of the moto but would ultimately cross the line ninth in that moto. As the second moto got underway, Wolfe would work his way through the pack and finish the day sixth in that race.
Earning eighth overall on the day was Rastrelli Racing/FXR Moto/Rocket Machine Design’s Jeffrey Rastrelli as he would go 8-7 on the day in Virginia, while Westland Motorsports/JH Racing/Goldspeed Tires/PEP/Musick Racing’s Brandon Hoag would go 3-15 to salvage a ninth overall. Hoag would have a frightening situation in moto two as his quad would catch fire causing him to abandon his machine after completing six laps.
Rounding out the top 10 overall finishers in the AMA Pro race was Decker Training Facility/K5 Motorsports/Walsh Race Craft’s Zack Decker as he would finish 11-8 in the motos.
