Wienen Goes 1-1 in Michigan for Fourth Overall Win of 2021
Hetrick and Lindquist Round Out Top Three
BUCHANAN, Mich. (August 5, 2021) – The ATV Motocross National Championship (ATVMX) Series, an AMA National Championship, wrapped up round 8 of the 2021 season in Buchanan, Michigan. It was an all-out battle between the two front-runners chasing down the National Championship.
Earning his fourth win of the season was Wienen Motorsports/Maxxis/SSi Decals/Fly Racing/Yamaha’s Chad Wienen. With the 2021 season winding down, Wienen was on a mission to get a 1-1 finish and earn some valuable points towards earning the National Championship. Wienen continued to push throughout the day and cross the finish line seconds ahead of the competition. Wienen would have to work for the win in moto one after running in second for the first half of the moto, but in moto two he would put his Yamaha ATV out front early without any hesitation.
Going 2-2 in Michigan was the 88 machine of Phoenix Racing/CST Tires/Elka/Walsh Race Craft/Moose Racing’s Joel Hetrick. After grabbing the early lead in moto one, Hetrick would try to hold of a hard-charging Wienen but would ultimately be unable to hold onto the lead. Hetrick would continue to battle, crossing the finish line second in both motos. Hetrick now sits 22 points behind Wienen in the championship standings.
Earning his first-ever AMA Pro overall podium finish was ML2 Motorsports/Walsh Race Craft/Maxxis/Yamaha’s Max Lindquist. After going 6-3 on the day, Lindquist would find himself standing atop the overall podium with Wienen and Hetrick. Lindquist continues to improve through his rookie season, and currently sits seventh in the points standings as only two more rounds of racing remain.
TDR Motorsports/OnTheBox Performance/Pafford EMS/Decker Training Facilities’ Brandon Hoag went 5-5 at RedBud to clinch the fourth overall finishing position. Hoag is another rider who continues to show improvements throughout the season. After eight rounds of racing, Hoag sits eighth in the points standings.
In moto one, Ford Brothers Racing/Fly Racing/SSi Decals/Maxxis Tires/DWT/Maxima/Fourwerx/Walsh’s Bryce Ford came across the line to finish fourth. However, in moto two Ford would find himself battling back for a ninth place finish. With a 4-9, Ford would finish fifth overall on the day. Ford continues to hold onto third in the championship standings and is hopeful to land on the overall podium at the remaining races in 2021.
Coming through to earn sixth overall on the day was GennUSA Racing/Integrated Financial Concepts/CST Tires/Walsh Race Craft’s Nicholas Gennusa. With 7-6 score on the day, Gennusa did not have the performance he was hoping for in Michigan. Gennusa tried to push and battle back towards the front of the back, but he would ultimately be unable to make his way farther up the results.
Ford Brothers Racing/Fly Racing/SSi Decals/Maxxis/DWT/Maxima/Fourwerx/Walsh’s Cody Ford came through to earn seventh overall with a 9-7 moto score on the day, while Stanfield Motorsports/Nine6Nine/Corrosion/TDR/Maxxis’ Logan Stanfield came through to take eighth overeall after going 8-8 in each moto.
Phoenix Racing’s Jeffrey Rastrelli had a great first moto as he crossed the line third, but as moto two got underway he would have some bad luck strike. Rastrelli would try to continue to push and make his way back up, but he would only be able to make his way around for seven laps and a 15th place in the moto. Rastrelli’s moto combination finishes would put him ninth overall.
Rounding out the top 10 overall was JH Racing/FTR Graphics/Fly Racing/Walsh Race Craft’s Westley Wolfe. After a broken spindle in the first moto, Wolfe would have to settle for 15th place finish. Wolfe would come out in moto two ready to go, and as the gate dropped, he would push his way up to fourth trying to make up for this mishap in moto one. Wolfe would hold onto that fourth place spot and with a 15-4 would finish out the day 10th.
