Aonia Pass MX in Washington, GA hosted the Round 4 of the AMA ATV MX Pro National Series this past weekend. Wienen Motorsports’ Chad Wienen finished 2-3 to secure second overall.
In Moto 1, Wienen came out of the first turn in third and quickly made a pass into second. On the second lap, Wienen closed the gap to just a second between himself and the rider out front but made a mistake on lap three and lost time. Wienen maintained a three second detriment on first place and was unable to close any gap.
Wienen had his work cut out for himself in moto 2 after a first turn accident. Coming into the first turn Wienen and Hetrick came together which resulted in Wienen doing a 180 on the machine and was going head to head with the field behind him. He had contact with another rider which put Wienen off the track and off the machine. Wienen came across the end of lap one in eleventh and over thirteen seconds behind the leader. Bound and determined to salvage the moto and championship points, Wienen charged ahead and put in the fastest lap time of the moto, aiding himself in making passes up through the field. Wienen put himself into third with three laps to go and three seconds between himself and the rider in second. Wienen was able to get within striking distance in the last corner of the race but came up short in being able to succeed in making a pass work. A 2-3 finish for the weekend put Chad into second overall for the weekend but he lost valuable championship points and now trails the championship points chase by one point.
“I really felt great on the machine this past weekend and I felt like I had extra in my tank heading into moto 2. The holeshot in moto 2 was definitely one of the scariest moments of my career and I am thankful to have been able to ride out of the situation. The last moto definitely challenged me having to move up through the entire field especially having such a large distance between myself and the other riders from the start but I lost some valuable championship points I’m bound and determined to get back. We head back to the Midwest and to my hometown track next so I’m looking forward to putting in the work to get back to the top of the box at the next round.”
The series resumes Father’s Day Weekend at Sunset Ridge MX in Walnut, Illinois at Chad’s hometown track June 19.
Stock class motos on Sunday were a great battle in both motos. Wienen secured the holeshot in moto 1 and was able to ride out front the entire moto despite pressure from behind the entire moto. In Moto 2, Wienen came out third in the holeshot and quickly moved into second. He applied pressure to Hetrick riding out front the entire moto, with less than a second between both riders throughout the entire moto it made for great spectating. Wienen finished 1-2 in the stock class and again secured second overall on the weekend.
