Site Lap: The Break is Almost Over

Each week it seems it gets tougher and tougher to begin my scribe for the week’s contribution to Site Lap and the reason is simply that I miss the racing so much that I am way too anxious to wait and it really starts to weigh on my mental wellbeing. That may be a bit of an over exaggeration but so is this seemingly relentless wait. The good news is that it keeps getting closer, so the light at the end of the preverbal tunnel is getting bigger and brighter.

Another bit of good news for the ATV Racin’ Nation is that there is some ATV Motocross racing action taking place this weekend with the South East Quads series promoted by Glen Turner and the boys. This is a series that seems to be taking on some strength on local/regional level and could be a good role model for future regional type series and will hopefully be the first step to actually seeing this come to pass finally. Find all the details on this race and all upcoming SEQuads events in the future here.

If you are looking to knock some rust off and can’t travel this weekend, don’t forget about next weekends “Ohio Crew Quad Fest” at Briarcliff MX where the Ohio National will be held this summer. It will be a good chance to get out and ride, check out the new facility and just get to be with a few ATV racing friends and family. The Ohio Crew Quad Fest is scheduled for Saturday May 10, 2014 and full details can be found at It will be a great preview weekend and lots of fun. In short practice sessions will run all day 10a – 4p. And I understand the hours will be 12p-? on Sunday. Each practice wave will have 15 minutes each time they hit the track and all skill levels are welcomed. There will be a Pro Dash for the Cash Saturday winner take all. That should be exciting and a no pressure weekend with lots of riding on the track and even the trails around Briarcliff will be open. I understand that UTVs are a part of this Fest and with the national being not too far out, it may be a good idea to check it out.

I had a chance to speak with Chad Wienen this past week in a interview with the champ. Chad is currently home in Illinois where he is getting a little reacquainted with home life after being on the road so long with the winter training and first two rounds. Chad says he has ridden some at Walnut’s Sunset Ridge and that he is ready to get back to racing but the break has been nice. You can listen to the interview

I have to say that I have been so starved for ATVMX related topics that the past three paragraphs I thought would take up the entire article. I was so excited about them but I guess at times like this even the smallest grains of information seem monumental when they come to mind. So obviously the information provided is short in detail but long on quality. That’s my story and I am sticking to it. Plus if you follow all the links, you will be busy for a while.

Now on to Ken “I can shoot pictures freestyle…over the shoulder, under the arm, behind the back, with my hat on sideways and look really cool doing it” Hill:

Thanks Rodney,

Besides waiting to see how Rodney introduces me each week, Site Lap gives us all a glimpse into what's going on in the ATV MX world. I know Rodney's schedule is packed so I’d like to thank him for what he does each week all year long!

Speaking of all year, Chad Wienen's interview on Quad Radio is a stark reminder to those that do not follow the series year round that the majority of the Pro and top Pro Am riders begin their seasons months before the opening round as they head south for winter training. There was some grumbling going around about this extended break, but man I am sure those guys really needed some downtime at home. Let's keep that in mind as we get ready to head back into things with round three approaching and not be so hard on people when the big picture hasn't been shown. In the end, all you have is family and every minute with them is cherished even if it is in a motor home at a track somewhere.

Now the big news this week is that round one and the preseason show will air on MAVTV.  We are counting on our fans and racers, their family and friends to all help spread the word. The show will fire off the gate at noon Saturday May 3rd so there is still time for you to grab the press release image and post it to all of your social media sources. Please do not assume enough people know about it, trust me, they don't! I also know the expected airings are to be 12 showings per episode for the first three rounds. That is some seriously aggressive marketing so hopefully we can grab the attention of the folks who have never seen what we do and keep them tuned in every round. Again, SHARE the info PLEASE!

The live RacerTV broadcast from round three is really starting to ratchet up behind the scenes. Right now they are working on who will help co-host the show and figure out the actual filming schedule of the motos in between the Pro races. So even though you are not a Pro, there could be a chance your race might be aired live for the world to see! I still fully believe this is the future and what will or can help drive ATV motocross to the next level and beyond but I cannot stress enough how imperative it is that everyone engage in spreading the word. I have spoken to several people throughout the industry who feel the same way I do and companies are watching to see how the series participants reach out and promote this event.

That is about all I have this week. Keep liking and sharing and tweeting and instagramming all your images and info about the series! See everyone soon!

Thanks Ken! And yes you are right, the RacerTV show is really starting to come together and this is another instance where we will as a “Racin’ Nation” need to ban together to spread the word. Think of yourselves as ATV Disciples and you have a message to pass on to all of mankind.

That’ll do it for now. Till next time, God Bless Your Heart and All Your Vital Organs.
