Welcome to Friday Site Lap. We’re finally into the New Year and it’s officially time to put those resolutions into action for 2013. While I’m not really into the whole resolution thing, I did make an unofficial bid to myself to drink more water this year. What can I say, I dream big. But this is a good time for all you racers out there to reflect on last season and really think about what it’s going to take to meet and exceed goals for this season.
One quick note - although Rodney Tomblin probably does need to drink more water in 2013, most of you probably have noticed this isn’t him. It’s Jen Kenyon here and I’ll be wooing you with my words in this week’s edition of Site Lap. Don’t worry, Rodney will be back in action next Friday but for now you all are stuck with me.
There’s not a whole lot going on as far as ATV racing goes but this weekend is pretty exciting no matter how many wheels you’ve got. In case you’ve been living under a rock, tomorrow kicks off the 2013 Monster Energy Supercross season in Anaheim, California and if you’ve got any racing in your blood you’re probably just as stoked as the rest of us. Feld Motorsports has an awesome live video package this year streaming three hours of live video, covering practice and qualifying sessions during the day, which you can find HERE. And then of course, you can catch the Main Events live on Speed at 9:30 p.m. ET.
Anyway, back to ATVMX, I talked to Jeffrey Rastrelli this week and lucky for him he’s already a Florida resident so he doesn’t have to travel far to get some good winter riding in. The JB Racing Team spent some time down at Waldo and it sounds like the crew consisted of Rastrelli, Grayson Eller, Tyler Peters, Maddie and Brogan Guyer, Blake Sarver and a few others. Following their photos on Facebook, it looks like they’re having a great time riding and hanging out together.
That’s one pretty unique thing I’ve noticed in the ATV Motocross world. The typical moto family doesn’t consist of just blood relatives. It’s pretty common for families to pool in and travel the country together, which actually accomplishes several things if you think about it. The obvious is the cost effectiveness of splitting things like fuel, lodging, etc., but it also gives the racers built-in riding pals and maybe even some company for the parents as well. It’s just another reason to love the sport of ATV racing, spending quality time with friends and family.
Just before the holidays, Bill Baird Motorsports announced that Casey Greek, former Motoworks/Can-Am mechanic, will be joining the team in 2013. There’s no doubt we’ll see some changes on the Can-Am forefront this season and both Natalie and Hetrick will not be returning for another season. It seems like a pretty smart move for Casey to switch gears to an amateur program where he can utilize his years of experience to help mentor a rider so early in his racing career. Best of luck to Casey in his new journey and looking forward to seeing a different aspect of him at the races!
Once again, if you haven’t had the chance to check out the 2013 Classes, Supplemental Rules and Class Details you can find them all HERE. A lot of time and consideration has gone into next year’s rules and class structure. I think sometimes we all forget that decisions have to be made for the betterment of the sport as a whole and everyone participating, rather than just one or two riders.
That’s all for me this week. We’re getting excited to kick off the 2013 season and hopefully you all are as well. Keep sending updates to [email protected] so we can hear what’s happening in the off-season. Happy New Year!
