Hurricane Mills, TN - The final round of the 2012 AMA ATV Motocross season is now in the history books as series set up camp at the historical Loretta Lynn's Ranch in Hurricane Mills, Tennessee. A robust turn out marked the last round of competition and the weather would be much more pleasant then in years past as the usually brutal humidity gave way to tolerable summertime conditions as the racing got underway.
Pro Am Production would once again see Cody Gibson leaving the race track claiming both moto wins for the overall to complete a perfect a season for Gibson with 10 wins, and AMA Referee, Harv Whipple, presented Cody Gibson with the number one plate during the podium celebration. Gibson proved to be a dominate force in the Pro-Am ranks, but Gibson stated he will need more support for 2013 if he plans on moving up to the Pro Class.
Joining Gibson on the Pro-Am Production Podium was Kyle Fix in the second spot. For Fix, it was his third podium finish in the final four rounds of the season as he came on strong to finish out the season. Pro-Am Rookie, Brett Musick, claimed the final spot on the podium in his class debut. Musick wrapped up the 450 B and Production B class championship after Round 7, so Musick has been moving up the ranks ever since to finish out the season, and Musick will surely be one to watch in 2013 after scoring a Podium finish in his Pro-Am Production debut.
In the Pro-Am Unlimited Class, Walsh’s Cody Gibson finished out the season with his eighth win on his hybrid Walsh 450R. Kyle Fix had a season best weekend with two second place finish and Cody Janssen rounded out the podium.
The Women's class would see a new entry this round with DASA Racing’s Emma McQuaid came over from Ireland and raced her way to the overall victory at Loretta Lynn’s with a 2-1 finish. Chloe Buerster secured the Moto One win, but McQuaid came back in Moto 2 and charge her way into the lead in the final lap to secure the Moto 2 win over class champion, Adrienne Cooper to secure the overall win.
DASA Racing’s Cooper held the early lead in Moto One, but she landed wrong over a jump and jammed her arms and chest into the handlebars, which sent her back to a fifth place finish. In Moto 2, Cooper held the early lead, but she still wasn’t 100% and wasn’t able to hold off McQuaid. Cooper finished out the season with a third place finish behind Buerster, but Cooper easily won the championship with five wins and never finished out of the top three all season.
Typically you can hear the names of Travis Spader and Merrill Crose throughout the weekend as the pair of Can Am mounted racers battle it out in a myriad of classes. Spader suffered an injury at Red Bud and would be absent from this round however Crose was eagerly doing battle in his usual four classes. Crose completed his season finishing no less then second in each class, wrapping up wins in 450A and Open A. With Spader sidelined, Nick Gennusa rode to a 1-1 win in 4 Stroke A and looks to be a threat in 2013.
Trevor Thatcher locked up the 70 CVT Championship and would score a 2-2 here at Loretta Lynn's, and now faces the possibility of winning a championship in the EDT Series as well. Maci Devenport brought home the championship in both Girls (12-15) with a 1-1 performance and had already locked up the 90 Production (8-15) class after a stellar season.
The 2012 season may be over but the rumblings from many of the racers social media sites are filled with planning for next year as well as the realization that the downtime is filled with boredom! We expect that free time will soon be filled with training and local racing as these riders live to compete and we wish them all a much needed break as they prepare for another season of AMA ATV National racing action!
