Highway 60 detour for bridge replacement at Dumfries

Motorists using Highway 60 near Dumfries in Wabasha County will encounter a detour because of bridge replacement project that begins on Monday, June 2, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation. 

The detour begins at Highway 61 and Highway 60 near Wabasha and follows Highway 61 north to Lake City. Traffic then turns south on Wabasha County Road 4, following it to Highway 60. A map of the detour is available on the MnDOT project page at www.dot.state.mn.us/d6/projects/hwy60-trout-creek-bridge/index.html. The detour is expected to last through Aug. 30. There is an 11-feet width limit on vehicles.

The general contractor for this $624,675 construction project is Minnow Construction of Harmony, Minnesota. The project is expected to be finished Sept. 27, 2014.

MnDOT urges motorists to follow these recommendations in work zones:

•     Stay alert

•     Watch for signs, equipment and workers

•     Minimize distractions, such as using cell phones, eating or drinking

•     Avoid tailgating

•     Follow posted speed limits and directional signs

•     Stay in one lane while driving through a work zone
