Josh Upperman pushed hard out of the gate for moto number one and two during last Saturday’s Mountain Dew ATV Motocross National Championship race.

Upperman took the SSI Decals holeshot award in both moto number one, and moto number two. All the pro riders rode with pink graphics to help raise awareness for breast cancer. Even though the temperature reached almost 90 degrees and the competition was stacked with the best riders from all around the country, it was Upperman who set the bar high with the fastest time during the first qualifier. “We didn't change anything on the quad after the first qualifier,” said Upperman. “I knew I was the fastest rider on the track and took that momentum to the podium.” Upperman ended the day third overall with a 3-2 finish. At the start of the first moto Upperman showed his explosiveness off the gate to capture the SSI Decals Holeshot Award but shortly into the first lap he was passed. It wasn’t long after that, in lap number three, that Upperman was able to regain the lead. Towards the middle of the 15-minute +2 lap moto Upperman settled into the third position.

Taking what he learned in the first moto Upperman was able to once again capture the SSI Decals Holeshot Award and make the statement that he is still one of the fastest riders in this talented competition. Even though the high humidity started to eff ect the sandy track dramatically Upperman still found some good lines and led the whole moto until the last lap just three turns from the finish.

“The support I receive from my sponsors are second to none,” said Upperman. “My goal is to be the best ATV motocross rider ever and without them I could never achieve that goal.”

The Mountain Dew ATV Motocross National Championship will take a week off before returning to action for round five of the 2014 season. Upperman’s hometown track BriarCliff MX in Nashport, Ohio, will be the host site of the Built Ford Tough BriarCliff  ATV National which will be held June 14-15
