Unitedmotorsports.com, Musick Racing, Media Allstars “The Good, The Bad and The Ugly” Echeconnee MX Race Report

[Lexington, KY] –The Unitedmotorsports.com, Musick Racing, Media Allstars Team was at full strength (albeit briefly) for the first time this season as the team prepared for what lie ahead at round 3 of the ATV National MX series.  Echeconnee MX is a facility and track that stirred up many a conversation about the “good old days” of ATV Racing and of course the most brutal sand track on the circuit.  The Echeconnee sand in and of itself is an urban legend in the world of ATV MX as many of the series veterans tried their best to prepare the uninitiated but sometimes you just have to learn the hard way and see for yourself if the legends and stories are real.  The Georgia Sand lived up to the hype and produced some of the best racing of the season, testing both the riders mental and physical endurance as well as their machines.

Kevin Saar #31 had a solid ride in the AMA ATVMX Pro Class at Echeconnee.  Saar used moto finishes of 12-8 to secure yet another top 10 overall as he took home 9^th place points in Georgia.  Saar would have bested that 9^th place if he hadn’t broken a nerf bar in the first moto with just 3 laps to go which cost him a couple of positions.  The #31 really showed what he was made of on Sunday by using his JH Racing powered Yamaha to its fullest potential and blasting his way through the sand to land on the top step of the Pro-Am podium.  Taking the overall win in the Pro-Am class puts him right in the thick of the championship points race and gives him the confidence going forward to continue to put in strong performances.  The Estonian rider is finally healthy after his bad crash at Daytona and it’s starting to show!   

The Pro Sport class saw both of our team riders Brett Musick and Heath Hannah experience some misfortune.  Musick rocketed out of the gate in the first moto and pulled a nice lead before giving way to some late moto fatigue and settling for 2^nd place.  The #209 Honda pilot was running 3^rd halfway through the 2^nd moto when the sand of Echeconnee ruined his day.  Musick charged into a section of huge ruts and holes only to dismount one of his front tires and consequently he was sucked into one of the huge sandy corners where he sat stranded for the remainder of the moto and ruining any chance he had at a podium finish.  Hannah did what he does…tangled up on the start, came out in 17^th place and charged his way through the pack.  Heath had managed to work his way all the way up to 6^th place in moto 1 before he too fell victim to the track conditions and found himself taking a soil sample with 2 laps to go.  The #61 TDR Yamaha rider did ride through some pain and discomfort in moto 2 to salvage what could have been a terrible weekend.

Amateur racing went well for the UM/Musick/MAS Team.  Brett Musick rode solid and consistent taking home 1-1 finishes to take home the overall in the 25+ class.  This is his 2^nd overall win in a row in the class and he looks well on his way to winning yet another amateur National Championship.  CD Musick #539 used his CRF450 Honda powerplant to get out front early and roll on his way to finishing 1-1 and 1^st overall for the weekend in the 50+ master’s class.  The elder Musick looked to be in mid-season form and that’s bad news for the rest of the Senior class!  Team captain and manager Chase Cunningham #419 finished 2^nd in both the Vet 30A and Vet40A classes on Saturday but a nasty crash on Sunday left him sitting on the side of the track with a broken collarbone and cracked ribs.  Not the start to the season the Morehead, KY rider was looking for but it’s early and bones heal so the fat lady might be warming up her vocals but she’s not singing just yet. The Media Allstars satellite team riders were also on point, we saw Gage Beebe continue to put in steady consistent rides in Pro Sport (10^th) and Pro-Am (5^th).  The 5^th place finish for Beebe in Pro-am is the best of his young career and we couldn’t be happier for him!  David Porter #17 (owner of PRP Racing) earned an impressive 2^nd place overall in the 30+B class as well. 

It’s another quick turnaround for round 4 as the series heads to Crawfordsville, Indiana and one of the favorite tracks on the circuit.  The Ironman National is next on the docket with racing on May 4^th and 5^th. We hope to see everyone there!
