Wienen Looks to Earn Fourth Overall Win
of 2016 ATVMX Series at Unadilla MX
Haagsma Strives for First Career Overall Win in New York

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (July 12, 2016) – The 2016 ProX ATV Motocross National Championship (ATVMX) presented by CST Tires, an AMA National Championship, continues to move closer to its completion as the world’s fastest ATV racers travel to one of the most iconic facilities in American motocross. The popular Unadilla MX in New Berlin, New York is prepared for the ATVMX series to invade its property this Saturday, July 16.

Wienen Motorsports/Yamaha/Maxxis/SSi Decals/Walsh Racecraft/FLY Racing’s Chad Wienen is fresh off his third overall win of the season heading into the Unadilla ATV national, and hopes to move one step closer to clinching his fifth straight title. The Illinois native carries a 22-point lead into Central New York.

After Wienen ended his five-race win streak, Maxxis/Elka Suspension/Liquid Wrench’s Joel Hetrick will be racing with hopes to return to the top spot of the box. With the season drawing near to conclusion, Hetrick knows that he needs to put in a flawless performance to remain in the championship chase.

Although Wienen and Hetrick are the only two riders to emerge victorious this season, one rider who is eager to change that is Maxxis/Liquid Wrench/Elka Suspension/Honda’s David Haagsma. After a solid string of podium finishes, Haagsma will have his eyes set on taking home a victory. Haagsma’s consistency plays a major role in his success and could help the California native earn his first career win.

Root River Racing/Hoosier Tires/Rage ATV’s Josh Upperman comes into this race ranked third in the National Championship standings. Although he lacks a podium finish this season, Upperman has still managed to find success as he has not placed outside of the top ten.

Another rider to ultimately keep an eye on this weekend is JB Racing/Root River Racing/Gold Speed Tires’ Jeffrey Rastrelli. Rastrelli has been a frontrunner since the season opener, but has been challenged with illness and mechanical issues. Rastrelli is due for a good ride and will have that in mind as he lines up for the 2 and 4 p.m. pro motos on Saturday.

AGX Designs/Walsh Racecraft/Maxxis-backed Nick Gennusa, local to New Jersey, will make the four-hour trip to Unadilla MX as he looks to make his first overall podium of the year. Gennusa will aim to use his home turf advantage this weekend to vault him to the top.

Just one year ago, Maxxis/Root River Racing/JB Racing’s Thomas Brown found himself on the podium at the Unadilla ATV National. While Brown has had his fair share of issues thus far, he will look to repeat his success in 2016 and return to the podium.

Amateur racing will take place throughout the weekend alongside the AMA Pro class, and local riders are invited and encouraged to compete in the event, as ATVMX offers classes for riders of all skill and experience levels. The amateur race entry fee is only $40 and riders can sign up at the event.

Local racers expected to compete this weekend will be: Nick Gennusa (Pro), Adam Briggs (Open B/College 16-24), Gage Scaletti (Open C/Production C), Dale Raven (Youth All Star 13-15), Alan Myers (450 A/Production A), Wyatt Hoffman (Open B/College 16-24), David Horstmann (Open C), Daniel Linke (Schoolboy Jr. 13-15), Jerry Terpay (Veteran 30+ C) and Chase Martin (70 Automatic 6-11/50 Open 5-8).
