SUBJECT:        COMPETITION BULLETIN 2014-6:

Clarification of Age Requirements for Amateur Classes

It has come to the attention of series administrators that ineligible youth riders are competing in amateur classes.  The National Class Chart clearly states “Riders must be 16 or older on date of event to compete”.  This applies to all amateur classes, all riders, on any machine size.

This rule differentiates from AMA Rule E.3, Section 4.3, which permits a 15 year old to compete in amateur classes so long as certain physical requirements are met.  The 15-year-old physical test applies to any machine size, not only 450cc.  However, at no time may a 14 year old or younger compete in an amateur class on any size machine.

The ATVMX Series does not follow the AMA 15 year old rule.  At the national level, in order to compete in an amateur class on any size machine, a rider must be 16 years or older on the date of the event.  To clarify this rule, Rule A.5 of the Supplemental Rules has been amended as follows:

Age: For Amateur classes, riders must be 16 years or older on the date of the event in order to compete on any size machine in any class….
